Product description

Cell-permeable fluorescent calcium indicator with high sensitivity and excitation/emission at 494/506 nm.

Invitrogen Fluo-4 AM is a cell-permeable, fluorescent calcium indicator designed to detect and measure intracellular calcium levels in live cells. Upon entering the cell, it is hydrolysed by intracellular esterases, enabling it to bind to calcium ions and emit a bright green fluorescence.

  • High sensitivity: Exhibits over a 100-fold increase in fluorescence upon calcium binding, facilitating precise detection of calcium fluxes.
  • Optimised excitation/emission: Excitation at 494 nm and emission at 506 nm, compatible with standard fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry equipment.
  • Enhanced cell permeability: Improved membrane penetration compared to similar indicators, ensuring efficient cellular loading.
  • Low cytotoxicity: Effective at lower intracellular concentrations, reducing potential toxicity in live-cell assays.

This indicator is widely utilised in:

  • Neuroscience: Investigating neuronal calcium signalling and synaptic activity.
  • Molecular biology: Studying intracellular calcium dynamics in various cellular processes.
  • Biotechnology: Essential for high-throughput screening assays in drug discovery and development.

Commonly employed in:

  • University laboratories: For fundamental research into cellular mechanisms.
  • Biomedical research centres: Exploring disease pathways and potential therapeutic targets.
  • Pharmaceutical companies: Conducting high-throughput screening in drug development pipelines.

Since its introduction, Fluo-4 AM has remained a cornerstone in calcium imaging studies, continuing to be a vital tool in contemporary research.

Why Questpair exists

Lab equipment markets are fragmented. Buyers spend weeks calling distributors, comparing quotes, and verifying supplier reliability. Sellers struggle to reach global research labs.

We built Questpair to fix this. Every supplier on the platform is verified before listing. Every quote you receive comes from a real, vetted seller. AI prepares your case in minutes, then a real specialist takes over.

We're an independent team based in The Netherlands, working with research labs and procurement teams across Europe and worldwide.

Frequently asked questions

How long does laboratory equipment typically last?

With a service contract, ten to fifteen years is normal for most benchtop instruments. Detectors and pumps are the parts that wear first.

Can I get service for older equipment?

Often, yes. Verified suppliers frequently work with service partners converting the instrument. If applicable, we can list servicing options alongside the offer.

Where can I buy parts?

Ask a scientist through the request button. Parts are often available even when the instrument itself is discontinued.

What is the typical lead time for refurbished equipment?

Two to six weeks, depending on refurbishment scope and whether calibration is included.

Does laboratory equipment ship internationally?

We ship to 38 countries. Crating and customs handling are quoted with the instrument.
