Product description

Four-station Sartorius single-use bioreactor system with 4-gas control, peristaltic pumps, scales, and heating blankets.

The Sartorius Biostat B-DCU is a four-station single-use bioreactor system for parallel cell culture, microbial fermentation, process development, and bioprocess scale-up studies. The system includes one BioPAT DCU Tower and four Biostat B-DCU bioreactor stations for simultaneous cultivation experiments.

System Configuration

  • Four parallel bioreactor stations
  • Four Univessel SU holders with Sensolux connection cables
  • Four agitation motors with cables and vessel adaptors
  • Four UniVessel SU heating blankets, part number BB-8840341
  • Four UniVessel SU safety valve stations
  • Temperature sensors and cables
  • ViaMass wire harnesses; sensors are not included
  • Feed/supply weight scales and vessel scales, part number EVO1S1-WV4
  • Scale capacity: 4 kg maximum
  • Power and communication cables
  • Single-use vessels and other consumables are not included

Gas Control and Aeration

The Biostat B-DCU provides four-gas aeration using Air, O₂, N₂, and CO₂. Six thermal mass flow controllers provide precision flow control across six gas lines.

  • TMFC precision: ±0.3% full scale; ±0.5% current value
  • Gas supply pressure: maximum 1.5 barg (22 psi)
  • Dual sparger and overlay gas outlets
  • Overlay Air flow: 0–300 ccm
  • Overlay CO₂ flow: 0–150 ccm
  • Sparger Air flow: 0–300 ccm
  • Sparger O₂ flow: 0–150 ccm
  • Sparger N₂ flow: 0–300 ccm
  • Sparger CO₂ flow: 0–150 ccm

This configuration supports oxygen transfer, carbon dioxide control, inert gas stripping, and gas-mixing studies used in mammalian cell culture and microbial fermentation.

Pumps, Mixing, and Vessel Operation

Each station includes six Watson-Marlow 114 fixed-speed peristaltic pumps with on/off control through rotary switches. Integrated gravimetric scales support real-time monitoring of feed bottles, supply containers, and reactor vessels for mass-based process control.

The Univessel SU culture vessel configuration includes:

  • Working volume range: 0.6 to 2 L
  • Two 3-blade segment impellers
  • Impeller angle: 30°
  • Aeration: L-sparger
  • Motor power: 200 W for 1 L–10 L vessels
  • Stirrer shaft coupling: Direct coupling
  • Direct-drive agitation range: 20–2000 rpm
  • Agitation range for 2 L single-use vessels: 20–400 rpm

Temperature Control

The system uses external heating blankets for Univessel glass and single-use vessels.

  • Temperature range: up to 50°C
  • Heating power: 220 W

Available configuration options include additional temperature sensors, exhaust filter heaters for condensation control, off-gas O₂/CO₂ analyzers, additional pumps, motor adaptors, glass vessel configurations, and a BioPAT Mass Control System.

Applications

This parallel bioreactor platform is suitable for:

  • Mammalian cell culture development
  • Microbial fermentation process development
  • Fed-batch and batch cultivation
  • Media and feed strategy optimization
  • Cell line and strain characterization
  • Parallel screening of cultivation conditions
  • Early-stage bioprocess development and scale-up
  • Biotechnology, biopharmaceutical production, and cell therapy research
  • Synthetic biology and molecular biology process development

Electrical and Physical Specifications

  • Power requirements: 120 V (±10%), 60 Hz
  • Maximum power consumption: 12 A
  • Dimensions: 360 × 768 × 432 cm (14.2 × 30.2 × 17.0 in.), as listed
  • Net weight: 45 kg (99 lb)

The listing describes the used system as fully functional and tested for power supply, touchscreen operation, station communication, Univessel SU holder communication, peristaltic pump operation, agitation motors, temperature probes, heating blankets, gas-mixing components, and integrated scale accuracy. Warranty, setup, training, shipping, and technical support are commercial services and are not included as product features.

Why Questpair exists

Lab equipment markets are fragmented. Buyers spend weeks calling distributors, comparing quotes, and verifying supplier reliability. Sellers struggle to reach global research labs.

We built Questpair to fix this. Every supplier on the platform is verified before listing. Every quote you receive comes from a real, vetted seller. AI prepares your case in minutes, then a real specialist takes over.

We're an independent team based in The Netherlands, working with research labs and procurement teams across Europe and worldwide.

Frequently asked questions

How long does laboratory equipment typically last?

With a service contract, ten to fifteen years is normal for most benchtop instruments. Detectors and pumps are the parts that wear first.

Can I get service for older equipment?

Yes. Every verified supplier states which service partners cover the instrument, and we list that alongside the offer.

Where can I buy parts?

Ask a scientist through the request button. Parts are often available even when the instrument itself is discontinued.

What is the typical lead time for refurbished equipment?

Two to six weeks, depending on refurbishment scope and whether calibration is included.

Does laboratory equipment ship internationally?

We ship to 38 countries. Crating and customs handling are quoted with the instrument.
