Product description

Thermo Scientific PikoReal qPCR system with 24-well block, five optical channels, four-target multiplexing and HRM capability.

The Thermo Scientific PikoReal qPCR system is a 24-well real-time PCR instrument for quantitative PCR and thermal cycling in molecular biology laboratories.

The unit has a five-channel optical system for multiplexing up to four targets. The fifth channel is dedicated to SYBR Green and High Resolution Melt experiments. PikoReal Software includes protocol programming, plate layout definition, result assessment and an unlimited licence for multiple users. Available software modules include absolute quantification, relative quantification, melt curve analysis, allelic discrimination and High Resolution Melt.

The unit is unused in its original packaging despite its 2011 manufacture. The marketplace condition is used.

Thermo Scientific PikoReal qPCR System

The PikoReal is a compact real-time PCR instrument with a 24-well thermal block. It is designed for qPCR analysis where bench space, reagent volume and plastic consumption are relevant. The system uses proprietary UTW Piko PCR Plates with wall thickness below 0.15 mm. These plates are compatible with 8-channel and 16-channel pipettes and liquid handling robots.

Optical and thermal specifications

  • Five LED excitation sources with an excitation range of 475 to 640 nm
  • Detection range of 520 to 740 nm
  • Multiplexing for up to four targets
  • Scan time for four channels below 10 seconds
  • Dynamic range of 10 logs
  • Theoretical sensitivity of 1 copy
  • Maximum thermal block heating rate above 5 degrees C per second
  • Maximum cooling rate of 4.5 degrees C per second
  • Thermal block temperature accuracy of plus or minus 0.2 degrees C
  • Thermal block temperature range of 4 to 99.9 degrees C
  • Heated lid temperature range of 30 to 110 degrees C
  • Sample volume range of 10 to 50 microliters
  • Automatic temperature and pressure setting
  • Maximum power usage of 200 watts

Software and connectivity

PikoReal Software supports absolute quantification, relative quantification, melt curve analysis, allelic discrimination and High Resolution Melt. The software includes an unlimited multiple-user licence, visual protocol steps, a Virtual Pipetting Tool mode, and data import and export functions. Ethernet communication allows operation of up to 10 instruments from one PC.

The unit is unused and remains in its original packaging. It was manufactured in 2011.

What these specifications mean

The five optical channels support multiplexing of up to four targets while reserving the fifth channel for SYBR Green and High Resolution Melt experiments. Separate LED light sources for different excitation wavelengths reduce crosstalk, and the system scans four channels in less than 10 seconds for fast multiplex cycling.

The thermal block heats at more than 5 degrees C per second and cools at up to 4.5 degrees C per second. This heating and cooling performance supports fast cycling protocols. The 4 to 99.9 degrees C block range covers the thermal stages required for PCR protocols, while the heated lid operates from 30 to 110 degrees C.

Why Questpair exists

Lab equipment markets are fragmented. Buyers spend weeks calling distributors, comparing quotes, and verifying supplier reliability. Sellers struggle to reach global research labs.

We built Questpair to fix this. Every supplier on the platform is verified before listing. Every quote you receive comes from a real, vetted seller. AI prepares your case in minutes, then a real specialist takes over.

We're an independent team based in The Netherlands, working with research labs and procurement teams across Europe and worldwide.

Frequently asked questions

How long does laboratory equipment typically last?

With a service contract, ten to fifteen years is normal for most benchtop instruments. Detectors and pumps are the parts that wear first.

Can I get service for older equipment?

Often, yes. Verified suppliers frequently work with service partners converting the instrument. If applicable, we can list servicing options alongside the offer.

Where can I buy parts?

Ask a scientist through the request button. Parts are often available even when the instrument itself is discontinued.

What is the typical lead time for refurbished equipment?

Two to six weeks, depending on refurbishment scope and whether calibration is included.

Does laboratory equipment ship internationally?

We ship to 38 countries. Crating and customs handling are quoted with the instrument.
