Product description

High-speed 10.5 MP back-thinned sCMOS camera with 1 e- noise, 90% QE, 115 fps, and large 20.4×10.9 mm FOV.

The *Hamamatsu ORCA-Fire* integrates essential elements of a high-performance back-thinned scientific CMOS (sCMOS) camera:

  • Low Noise: 1.0 electrons rms at 115 frames per second
  • High Quantum Efficiency (QE): 90% at 475 nm (back illuminated CMOS sensor)
  • High Resolution: 4432 (H) × 2368 (V) pixels, pixel size 4.6 μm
  • High Speed: 115 frames per second at full 10.5 megapixel resolution
  • Large Field of View: 20.4 mm × 10.9 mm (diagonal 23.114 mm)
  • High Dynamic Range: 1:20,000 with full well capacity of 20,000 electrons

The camera features a small pixel size optimized for low magnification (<40×) imaging, maintaining Nyquist or higher sampling rates to maximize resolution. The 4.6 μm pixel size is ideal for 40× objectives or lower magnifications, offering 2.9 times higher pixel throughput compared to 4.2 MP 6.5 μm sCMOS cameras.

Pixel size suitability chart (objective lens magnification and numerical aperture):

| Magnification | NA | δ (μm) | Δ (μm) | Appropriate pixel size (μm) | |---------------|------|---------|---------|-----------------------------| | 4 | 0.16 | 2.10 | 8.4 | 4.2 | | 10 | 0.4 | 0.84 | 8.4 | 4.2 | | 20 | 0.8 | 0.42 | 8.4 | 4.2 | | 40 | 1.4 | 0.24 | 9.6 | 4.8 | | 40 | 0.95 | 0.35 | 14.1 | 7.1 | | 60 | 1.42 | 0.24 | 14.2 | 7.1 | | 100 | 1.5 | 0.22 | 22.4 | 11.2 |

  • Rayleigh criterion (δ) = 0.61 λ / NA, with wavelength (λ) = 550 nm
  • Δ = δ × magnification of objective lens

This camera is suited for applications demanding high sensitivity, fast frame rates, and large fields of view combined with superior spatial resolution.

Why Questpair exists

Lab equipment markets are fragmented. Buyers spend weeks calling distributors, comparing quotes, and verifying supplier reliability. Sellers struggle to reach global research labs.

We built Questpair to fix this. Every supplier on the platform is verified before listing. Every quote you receive comes from a real, vetted seller. AI prepares your case in minutes, then a real specialist takes over.

We're an independent team based in The Netherlands, working with research labs and procurement teams across Europe and worldwide.

Frequently asked questions

How long does laboratory equipment typically last?

With a service contract, ten to fifteen years is normal for most benchtop instruments. Detectors and pumps are the parts that wear first.

Can I get service for older equipment?

Often, yes. Verified suppliers frequently work with service partners converting the instrument. If applicable, we can list servicing options alongside the offer.

Where can I buy parts?

Ask a scientist through the request button. Parts are often available even when the instrument itself is discontinued.

What is the typical lead time for refurbished equipment?

Two to six weeks, depending on refurbishment scope and whether calibration is included.

Does laboratory equipment ship internationally?

We ship to 38 countries. Crating and customs handling are quoted with the instrument.
