For many actions in the fields of science & technology one needs specialist equipment and for that reason scientists and engineers are often personally involved with the buying, selling and maintenance of equipment.
This is why it came as a natural development of our project-based collaboration platform to create a specialised marketplace where equipment manufacturers, suppliers and resellers can advertise the scientific equipment they are selling. Some businesses have already started adding their items onto the marketplace. While experts are key, our marketplace also has a strong business-to-business (B2B) dimension, as much scientific equipment is sold by companies to other businesses and organisations.
Marketplaces for scientific equipment and collaborations are emerging, and often focus on specific sectors. Instead of focusing on one sector, we want to position ourselves as cross-disciplinary and focus on the synergy between expertise and equipment. Our goal is to let organisations in need of scientific equipment get in touch with suppliers offering relevant and innovative instruments. We let these suppliers directly communicate with the experts in these organisations according to their needs in a way that fits their workflow.
Apart from equipment items, suppliers can also list on QuestPair’s marketplace services, materials and data. Services can be technical or scientific in nature, and be directly connected to equipment, for example regarding the instruction, use, installment, repairing of scientific or industrial instruments.
Often when selling or buying bespoke pieces of scientific equipment, specific details need to be tuned and negotiated before an order can be placed. In addition, the transport, assembly and installment can be complex and typically requires a fair amount of logistics and planning. Therefore, we designed our marketplace such that suppliers can arrange all these aspects directly with the customers. They will simply receive an email when a user requests information about an item on the QuestPair marketplace. After that, suppliers can communicate directly with customers and proceed with the sales without interference.
How to list your items on QuestPair
To sign up and list items, the sequence is simple:
- Register on QuestPair as a supplier here.
- Add your items manually and/or with bulk import from an excel file.
3. Check your items and post them on the marketplace.
4. Automatically receive an email when a customer requests information.
5. Communicate directly by email with the customer to arrange further details, payment and delivery.

Huge amounts of high-quality equipment are currently left to collect dust in storage rooms at research facilities and companies around the world. We believe this will offer new opportunities for startups and research groups to purchase more affordable equipment to stimulate research and development in underfunded areas.
