The Eppendorf DASbox Mini Bioreactor System Unit 3 enables parallel operation of 4 mini bioreactors designed for precise control of small-scale cell culture bioprocessing, widely adopted in biotechnology research and bioprocess development. It features:
- Working volumes: 60–250 mL glass vessels, 100–250 mL single-use vessels (vessels not included)
- Agitation speeds: 20–2,500 rpm (glass vessels), 20–500 rpm and 20–200 rpm for single-use vessels with pitched blade or 8-blade impellers
- Temperature control: Liquid-free heating and cooling via Peltier elements, maintaining 10–60°C (glass) and 10–45°C (single-use) at 25°C ambient
- Gas flow control: Thermal Mass Flow Controllers (TMFC) enabling overlay/sparger gas flow with standard gases Air, N2, O2, CO2 at 0.04–5 sL/h (max CO2 flow 3.5 sL/h)
- Process controls: Integrated pH control via CO2/base addition and dissolved oxygen (DO) cascade control adjusting oxygen concentration and gas flow
- Feeding capability: Two feed lines per vessel supporting flow rates from 0.3 to 420 mL/h depending on tubing diameter
- Exhaust condensation: Liquid-free Peltier condensers included to maintain gas-liquid phase separation without contamination risk
- Hardware: Includes DASbox MP8-PHPO with PH4PO4LS option, base unit, magnetic overhead drives, temperature probes, standard power, and communication cables
This system supports parallel cultivation of mammalian and insect cell lines, critical in bioprocess scale-down modeling, media optimization, and early-stage development of cell-based biomanufacturing processes. Its modular design offers scalable solutions for molecular diagnostics, synthetic biology research, and biopharmaceutical production pipelines.
