In the event of a lithium battery fire, the automatic fire extinguisher suppresses the fire and neutralizes the decomposition products of the electrolyte such as Hydrogen fluoride (HF), forming stable products such as KF and KHF2. The neutralizing action prevents the formation of highly flammable gases, such as hydrogen (H2), bringing the internal temperature down below the threshold necessary for a new fire to break out.
