Description from the supplier

The Branson Sonifier 250 Cell Disruptor is a robust, second-hand laboratory instrument designed for precise application in sample preparation and cell disruption processes. Its power supply adeptly converts AC line voltage into 20kHz electrical energy, which is subsequently transformed into mechanical vibrations via an inverter. Integral to this process is the lead zirconate titanate electrostrictive element within the transducer, whose expansion and contraction in response to an alternating current generate vital longitudinal vibrations. These vibrations are effectively transmitted to the horn tip submerged in a solution, creating cavitation. This cavitation involves the implosion of microscopic bubbles or voids, resulting in vigorous molecular agitation within the medium.

The Sonifier 250 offers versatility in its operational modes: Pulsed and Continuous. The Pulsed Mode facilitates ultrasonic energy delivery at intervals of one pulse per second, adjustable between 0.1 to 0.9 seconds. This feature is particularly advantageous for processing solutions with temperature-sensitive components or volatile characteristics, allowing full ultrasonic intensity with controlled thermal buildup. In contrast, the Continuous Mode enables uninterrupted operation for extended processing tasks.

Ideal applications for the Branson Sonifier 250 include nanoparticle dispersion, mixing, homogenization, DNA shearing, cell lysis, and protein extraction, making it a valuable asset for research laboratories focused on complex biochemical and physical sample manipulation.
