Vom Prinzip her sind thermische Anemometer besonders für niedrige Strömungsgeschwindigkeiten geeignet, da sie keine beweglichen Teile aufweisen, wo mechanische Widerstände zu überwinden wären. Die Schwierigkeiten dieses Messprinzips, den Einfluss der Temperatur der strömenden Luft auf das Messergebnis auszugleichen, wurde bei den TA-Instrumenten durch einen zusätzlichen, unbeheizten Kompensations-Thermistor im Fühler gelöst.TA2 Geräte sind mit einer Teleskopsonde ausgestattet, die bis 93 cm Länge ausziehbar ist. Dadurch können Messungen an sonst schlecht zugänglichen Luftaustritten oder in Lüftungskanälen durchgeführt werden.
