Perkin Elmer Janus G3 Automated Workstation

The Perkin Elmer JANUS® G3 Automated Workstation is a sophisticated, second-hand laboratory instrument that integrates multiple pipetting technologies into a singular, versatile platform. Featuring a modular design, the workstation includes an adaptable 8-tip Varispan™ arm, ideal for automated liquid handling with customizable throughput, plate capacity, and dynamic volume range. This particular configuration has been employed to securely and accurately scan barcodes, as well as reformat up to 192 biological samples obtained from nasopharyngeal, oropharyngeal, and anterior nasal swabs. It efficiently supports viral nucleic acid extraction workflows by offering comprehensive sample preparation capabilities. These include the addition of lysis buffers, internal standards, and enzymes, pooling of multiple samples prior to RNA isolation, and the arrangement of beads, wash buffers, and elution buffers for subsequent nucleic acid extraction using the chemagic 360 nucleic acid extractor. Furthermore, the workstation facilitates the preparation of PCR plates post-extraction.

The JANUS G3 Primary Specimen Reformatter is equipped with an automated test tube barcode reader accommodating 192 positions, WinPrep configuration software, deck accessories tailored for nucleic acid extraction sample preparation, and the PKeye video monitoring system for malfunction capture and troubleshooting. It includes original conductive filter tips (175 and 900 microliters) which enable liquid level sensing. Additionally, this workstation comes with Installation Qualification and Operational Qualification (IQOQ) and comes housed appropriately.

Installed in March 2022, this system has seen minimal use. It was accompanied by a platinum service contract and has been meticulously maintained according to established protocols, retaining a near-new condition.
