Efficient Microwave Extraction System for Natural Products

The new ETHOS X from Milestone is designed for the Microwave Green Extraction of Natural Products, offering two interchangeable configurations tailored for fragrances and flavors. This system leverages a distinctive microwave selective heating mechanism, ensuring effective and consistent extraction results.

In its fragrances configuration, the ETHOS X utilizes solvent-free microwave extraction (SFME) technology to rapidly extract essential oils from aromatic herbs, spices, and dry seeds. Samples are placed in the microwave reactor, with an external cooling system condensing vapors into a fragrance-specific glassware. The in-situ water of the sample is maintained by refluxing excess water back into the extraction vessel.

The flavors configuration employs microwave hydro-diffusion and gravity (MHG) technology, a novel and sustainable approach for extracting essential oils from aromatic plants. This method blends microwave heating with atmospheric pressure gravity, facilitating flavors' diffusion from plant material. An external cooling system similarly condenses the extract continuously outside the microwave oven.

Both methods enable direct analysis of the extracted essential oils via GC-MS without the need for preliminary clean-up or solvent exchange steps, streamlining the workflow significantly. The package includes the IKA RC 2 Control recirculating chiller, enhancing the system's operational efficiency.
