FreeFem+ is a free, open-source software tool for numerical simulation and optimization in scientific and engineering applications. It is primarily used for solving partial differential equations (PDEs) and optimization problems, and it is particularly well-suited for problems in fluid mechanics, electromagnetism, structural mechanics, and heat transfer. FreeFem+ is based on the Finite Element Method (FEM), which is a numerical technique for solving differential equations by approximating them with piecewise linear functions. The software includes a high-level programming language for defining and solving PDEs and optimization problems, as well as a graphical user interface (GUI) for visualizing and analyzing the results. FreeFem+ is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux, and it can be used on a wide range of problems in scientific and engineering research. It is developed and maintained by a community of volunteers, and it is distributed under the GNU General Public License (GPL).
