Coot is a software tool for analyzing and visualizing macromolecular structures, such as proteins and nucleic acids. It is used in the field of structural biology to study the 3D structure of biological molecules and their interactions with other molecules. Coot includes a range of features for analyzing and manipulating macromolecular structures, including tools for fitting atomic models to electron density maps, visualizing structural data, and identifying and analyzing specific features of the structure. It is developed by the Medical Research Council (MRC) Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, UK and is available for free download for Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems. Coot is often used in conjunction with other software tools, such as the Molecular Graphics and Modelling System (MGMS) or the Protein Data Bank (PDB).
