Description from the supplier

The Bio-Rad DCode Universal Mutation Detection System, offered here as a pre-owned model, is an invaluable tool for identifying unknown mutations in genomic DNA, crucial for advancing the understanding of genetic disorders and diseases, including cancer. This system is also adept at analyzing DNA polymorphisms, which is beneficial for ecological and evolutionary studies across a variety of organisms, enabling applications that include species identification, elucidation of population structures, and tracking genetic diversity.

This versatile system excels in detecting single-base changes through several electrophoretic techniques:

  • Single-stranded conformation polymorphism (SSCP)
  • Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE)
  • Constant denaturing gel electrophoresis (CDGE)
  • Temporal temperature gradient gel electrophoresis (TTGE)

The DCode system stands out as an adaptable, robust electrophoresis solution that allows for the execution of any combination of these techniques. At its core is a sophisticated temperature control module, featuring a microprocessor-controlled heater, buffer-recirculating pump, and stirrer. Efficient temperature regulation, crucial for accurate results with techniques like SSCP and TTGE, is ensured by immersing gels in buffer, maintaining temperatures between 5° and 70°C. For temperatures below ambient levels, an external laboratory chiller can be paired with the cooling tank. The system is capable of processing up to 64 samples in a mere 2 hours, making it an efficient choice for DNA sequence variation screening.

To support evolving research demands, the DCode system is highly configurable. It comes with a vertical electrophoresis cell and selectable adaptor kits tailored for SSCP, DGGE, CDGE, and TTGE, a technique jointly developed by Bio-Rad. TTGE offers all the advantages of DGGE and CDGE, eliminating the need for chemical denaturant gradients.

  • Glass Plate Dimensions: 200 x 200 mm
  • Maximum Gel Size: 160 x 200 mm (up to two gels per run)
  • Heater and Control: PID type temperature control with a ±0.5°C variation within the gel area, and ±0.5°C actual in the range of 45 – 70°C
  • Dimensions (W x D x H): 390 x 200 x 420 mm
  • Weight: 16 kg

This second-hand DCode system represents a cost-effective solution for laboratories seeking reliable and comprehensive DNA mutation detection capabilities.
