The Waters Acquity UPC2 System employs convergence chromatography, combining normal-phase LC separation power with reversed-phase LC usability, primarily using liquid CO2 as a mobile phase.

- Electronically controlled CO2 inlet shut-off valve triggered on power-off or error
- Overpressure protection with CO2 pressure relief venting to waste or external vent
- Automated Back Pressure Regulator (ABPR) for precise flow and pressure regulation
- CO2 pressure transducer range -124 to 1190 psi, resolution 10 psi, accuracy ±30 psi, max working pressure 2000 psi
- Sample Injection System:
- Fixed-loop injector supporting 1 to 99 injections per sample
- Injection volume range 0.1 µL to 50 µL in 0.1 µL increments
- Sample temperature control 4°C to 40°C with 0.1°C increments
- XYZZ needle-in-needle probe design
- Sample carryover less than 0.005% or <2 nL
- Programmable wash solvents: 2 degassed solvents for strong and weak washing
- Evaporative Light Scattering Detector (ELSD):
- Front-mounted snap-in nebulizer
- Nitrogen gas supply >65 psi
- Heated optics bench at 50°C
- Tungsten halogen polychromatic light source, front-mounted, pre-aligned, and user-installable
- Photomultiplier tube detection range 0.1 to 2000 light scattering units
- Filter settings: Hamming filter with 0 to 5 s delay adjustable in 0.1 s increments
