Norgren Systems CP7200 Colony Picker

The CP-7200 by Norgren Systems is a versatile and efficient pick-and-place machine designed to accommodate high-speed colony and plaque picking. The system's precision enables it to accurately target and pick only round, isolated colonies, even when these are densely packed. It supports plating densities of up to 500 colonies per 4×4 inch agar plate, with colony diameters potentially smaller than 0.5 millimeters. Additional features include blue/white selection and plaque picking capabilities.

The instrument is user-friendly with its intuitive graphical user interface, ensuring comprehensive real-time control. The integrated imaging system facilitates image acquisition seamlessly, supported by highly optimized image analysis software. This software efficiently pinpoints objects of interest and supports custom picking applications through manual selection with a mouse.

Equipped with twenty tungsten needles, guided by precision linear slides, the CP-7200 independently selects and transfers clones. The apparatus boasts high-precision X,Y stages, enabling precise positioning within 6 microns as the input agar or microtiter plate moves under the pick needle.

Its sterilization process involves a simple water rinse station and a compact, high-temperature bore hole furnace to rapidly heat sterilize needles. The device achieves a peak rate of over 7200 picks per hour and is adaptable for use with round, square, or rectangular plates. It can pick into 96- or 384-well microtiter plates and, using the rearraying software module, consolidate clones of interest from 96- or 384-well input plates into these formats or onto square agar plates.
