As an inert gas glove box it is designed to maintain in it’s inside an artificial atmosphere, typically consisting of pure nitrogen or pure argon with a concentration of oxygen and water vapour typically below 1 ppm. It is used to protect the product, which is handled inside the box from the outside, in particular from unwanted reaction with oxygen and/or water vapour (product protection).
